11th District GOP Convention Has Finally Adjourned
on May 21st, 2012 at 10:00 AMSaturday’s convention for the 11th Congressional District Republican Committee was a disaster. How on Earth the vote counters messed up the totals is beyond me, one of my favorite people got completely hosed, and it took hours and hours to get from the first ballot to the second ballot. Not only did the voting delegates chose to be there, most of us paid to be there which leads me to ask, why would anyone come back next time? But I decided against writing a post about how bad things went. Instead, I decided to write something positive, because something exciting did happen.
James Lightweis, a young man who just last week graduated from George Mason, won a seat as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Tampa. He did so the way you are supposed to win an election at a convention; by getting his people registered and then making sure they got there. James jumped into his race head first with a solid conservative message and began to build a well organized approach to engaging potential delegates, and he even had a nice website. It’s great to see someone that young who already appreciates the need for creating a well organized structure. I certainly encourage more young Republicans (that’s Republicans who are young not necessarily YRs) to get involved by running for office.
With all that said, I may not ever vote for James myself. He is a Ron Paul supporter and I’m not. But I am pleased to see someone that young who is already that professional, knowledgeable and serious about stepping into office
And of course, congratulations to all of the winners from Saturday’s convention:
Terry Wear- Chairman
David Ray, Keith Damon and Patsy Drain- State Central
Juanita Balenger- Presidential Elector
And joining James in Tampa for the National Convention will be Anne Gentry and Geraldine Davie

I was amazed to see how many people were wearing Lightweis stickers before the convention started, so his election wasn’t a shock to me. He definitely earned it!
James is great and the fact the he is Ron Paul supporter makes him just that much better.
“He is a Ron Paul supporter and I’m not.”
I thought it was the issues, based on benefits and costs when weighed against those of alternatives, that were important when deciding whether or not to vote for a candidate for public office, not whom they support or supported.
