One of the guests at last night’s Fairfax County Republican Committee meeting was former Alabama Congressman Artur Davis, who has recently converted to the GOP and is now a resident of Fairfax County. Davis addressed the crowd and gave an inspiring speech which was received by a standing ovation. He spoke about how our freedoms are in danger, not from a tank but from an elegant speaker, which can be just as effective. He said that Greece and Spain can’t control our direction. The crowd was excited to hear Davis say, “Don’t let them tell you that opposing the party in power is opposing progress.” He did a great job and the FCRC membership welcomed him with open arms. Davis finished his speech by saying he is looking forward to working with us. The feeling is mutual, welcome to Northern Virginia, the FCRC, and the Grand Old Party.

After the meeting FCRC Chairman Jay McConville said Davis is a great illustration of our party’s mission to court and welcome conversions from a Democratic Party which is increasingly moving to the left. McConville was excited to have Davis on board and it is fair to say that his excitement accurately represented the mood in the meeting when Davis was speaking.

Here is a link to Davis’s blog explaining his conversion to the Republican Party. He also contemplates his political future as a Northern Virginia Republican. When reading it please keep in mind that Davis was an early supporter of Obama’s first candidacy for president and a rising star in the Democratic House leadership. Davis ends his post with, “Stay tuned.” We most certainly will.
