    Some good news to report!

GOP candidate Bob McDonnell has a lead in the polls against all three Democratic candidates!

This is wonderful news, especially looking at the numbers between McAuliffe and McDonnell.

While McAuliffe is the scariest Democrat due to his money, the most recent Rasmussen poll showed this:

    McDonnell – 45%

    McAuliffe – 35%

Creigh Deeds, who was tied with McDonnell months ago, is now looking at these numbers.

    McDonnell - 39%

    Deeds – 30%

And lets not forget Brian Moran, who actually had a lead in the polls a few months ago. Here are the numbers that he is looking at:

    McDonnell – 39%

    Moran – 30%

All of this is wonderful news! Coming from a state that elected a Democrat to the Senate by a wide margin and from a state that just went blue, this shows that the Obama excitement is already dying down. Let’s show the Obama Democrats and Tim Kaine that Virginia is still a proud, RED state!

It sucks to be a Democrat sometimes.

Richmond Times-Dispatch Recognizes the Threat Democrats' Pose to Virginia's Business-Friendly Reputation

by REDNOVATEAM on February 10th, 2009 at 10:01 AM
Posted In: 2009 Governor's races, Bob McDonnell, Brian Moran, Creigh Deeds, Terry McAuliffe

This morning’s Richmond Times-Dispatch contains an op-ed that shows the danger the Democrats’ pro-union agenda poses to Virginia.  Virginia, with its strong right-to-work laws and business-friendly reputation, has been a favorite spot for companies to locate their operations, or relocate their operations from less-business-friendly states.  That reputation, however, is under assault, from national Democrats threatening to impose card check legislation, and from state Democrats.  All three Democratic candidates for governor are squarely in the labor camp, and that bodes ill for Virginia’s business climate.  From the Times-Dispatch this morning:

Blogger Karen Duncan, who bills herself as “proudly liberal since 2005,” was clearly acting out of gratitude when she posted pictures and descriptions of Democrats Terry McAuliffe, Brian Moran, Creigh Deeds, and Jody Wagner handing out coffee and popcorn — and being generally cheerful and supportive — during a union-sponsored picket line. The event was held on Jan. 19 at the Hilton Crystal City at National Airport.

“They came and remembered their working class roots and their core party values,” Duncan wrote of the three Democratic candidates for governor of Virginia and of Wagner, who is seeking the party’s nomination for lieutenant governor. “They came bearing gifts and sustenance to cold and hungry picketers and one walked the picket line,” she enthused.

People’s Weekly World — which has delivered “working class news and opinions since 1924″– also handed out rave reviews: “In a sign of profound change, three Democratic candidates for Virginia governor walked on the picket line and spoke at a sidewalk rally. Also marching was Jody Wagner.”

Never mind the confusion about how many candidates actually walked the walk. Instead, we will note with some irony that the march on the Hilton came just a couple of weeks before Gov. Tim Kaine announced Hilton Hotels Corp. was moving its headquarters from Beverly Hills to Fairfax. Perhaps the company decided to ignore the earlier assault on its good name.

In the long run, though, businesses will not ignore any decline in Virginia’s reputation as a state that respects workers’ rights by protecting their right to work. Across the river in Washington, Democrats are preparing an assault on secret ballots and American job creation. The times they may be changing in the Old Dominion, but we suspect Democrats are sorely mistaken if they believe Virginians are prepared to let our next governor turn their state into a Southern version of Michigan.

Supporters of the GOP’s candidate for governor, Bob McDonnell, are no doubt delighted to see his opponents lining up for the unions. It might be the first strike in reversing Virginia’s blue streak.

People’s Weekly World — a paper that “enjoy[s] a special relationship with the Communist Party USA“ – sings the praises of the three Democratic candidates for governor??  That’s an endorsement Virginia business can do without.

    Post-Election Commentary

by Not Jim Moran on February 10th, 2009 at 2:20 AM

As we all know, recently Sharon Bulova pulled off a razor-thin victory the Fairfax County Chairman special election.

Sharon’s election proved that there is hope in this world for failures. Despite being responsible for the $650 million shortfall in the budget, she convinced enough people to promote her.

I’m sorry. I really don’t get this. I would love for someone who voted for Ms. Bulova to explain to me why they did. I have yet to find a good reason for allowing her to become the Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisorers.

She was a terrible candidate and did not deserve this. Pat Herrity destroyed her in debates, and proposed real ideas to Fairfax’s problems. Ms. Bulova didn’t even run a good campaign. She won it by busing in D.C. unions to campaign for her, and by spreading lies about Mr. Herrity. In fact, Democrats weren’t even excited about the idea of Sharon Bulova. Did you know that she had to put ads on Craigs List in order to find campaign help?

I’m NOT making this up. Thank you Pat Herrity for running an excellent campaign. And to Sharon Bulova, if you’re reading this: SHAME ON YOU! SHAME ON YOU! I demand an apology be issued to Pat Herrity for the way you treated him during your campaign.

And thus ends another special election…let the race to fill Sharon’s seat begin!

Obama skips out on America's Heroes

by cmmarston on February 9th, 2009 at 8:32 PM
Posted In: Barack Obama, National politics, The Media

Scheduling for politicians and candidates is hard work, but it’s important work. A leader’s schedule speaks to his or her priorities. When you’re the President, your schedule alone makes an important statement.

That’s why I was so disappointed to learn that President Obama skipped the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball, the inaugural event, attended by every President on the occasion of his inauguration since it began in 1953 (that’s 14 inaugurations attended by 5 Republican presidents and 4 Democratic presidents).

The American Legion and 14 other veterans service organizations sponsor the ball for Medal of Honor recipients (As long as I’m ranting, note the lack of the word “Congressional;” recipients don’t get the award because someone in Congress likes them; a member of the uniformed services earns the award by distinguishing himself  “conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States”).  This year, 47 of these American heroes (nearly half of the 97 currently living recipients) attended the event. Props to Vice President Joe Biden for attending to thank them for their service.

See the Cleveland Leader story that sets the record straight on Obamaniacs’ efforts to kill this story by falsely claiming Obama attended.

    Cuccinelli responds to Brownlee attacks

by Not Jim Moran on February 9th, 2009 at 1:07 PM
Posted In: 2009, AG Race, Dave Foster, John Brownlee, John Brownlee, Ken Cuccinelli

    Developing Story…

State Senator Ken Cuccinelli recently sent out an email to his supporters, responding to John Brownlee’s triggerman rule charge (See it here).

    In his email, Ken said,

For some time now, John Brownlee has deliberately distorted my position on the death penalty.  As a candidate for Attorney General, I do not take distortions and misrepresentations lightly, and neither should you….

…I have always been a supporter of Virginia’s death penalty law.  In the Senate, I have consistently fought against Democrats’ efforts to impose a death penalty moratorium – and I have opposed efforts to allow endless appeals in death penalty cases….

…I also have supported and will continue to support the death penalty under the current exceptions to the “triggerman rule” for (1) terrorism (including the beltway sniper case), (2) murder for hire, and (3) criminal enterprises/gangs.  However, there have been legislative attempts to completely eliminate the triggerman rule, which I believe would be too broad an expansion.  That’s the only expansion of the death penalty that I have ever opposed, while supporting other expansions and always defending our current death penalty statute….

This is starting to get pretty interesting, and could turn into the deciding issue at the convention. While I have deep respect for both men, this issue is not one that John Brownlee plans to lose on. Being a former prosecutor definitely gives you more authority on this issue than a legislator.

Even while being pr0-death penalty, being forced to go on defense on this issue is not a good thing. The 2009 Republican Attorney General candidate must not look soft on crime, and John Brownlee could definitely give Ken that look. I’m not sure how effective Ken’s email will be, as Ken even admits to being against “completely eliminating the triggerman rule.” I think this is the issue that Mr. Brownlee is stressing, not the entire death penalty issue itself.

Although who is really losing from this fight? Dave Foster. Mr. Foster hasn’t really expressed his views on the death penalty (in speeches and lit), and I would be curious to see his response to this. I sent him an email today, and will let the readers know if he responds.

This story will continue to develop, and I’ll keep updating it as it moves along. Ultimately, this places John Brownlee in the best situation.
