Bill Bolling releases statement on McDonnell's resignation

by Not Jim Moran on February 6th, 2009 at 10:48 PM
Posted In: 2009 Governor's races, Bill Bolling, Bob McDonnell

Shortly after AG Bob McDonnell resigned, Lt. Gov Bill Bolling released a statement of support for him. He thanked Bob for his service, and wished him luck in his bid for Governor. His full statement can be found below:

“For the past three years Bob McDonnell has served the Commonwealth with
great distinction as our Attorney General.  During that time he has worked
across party lines to find realistic, workable solutions to the most
important challenges facing Virginia, and he has developed an impressive
record of accomplishment and results that rivals any other Attorney General
    in Virginia history.

“Bob McDonnell is recognized as a national leader in the fight against
sexual predators and the proliferation of gangs.  In the wake of the tragic
shootings at Virginia Tech he worked with Governor Kaine and legislative
leaders to reform our mental health laws.  Through his Government and
Regulatory Reform Task, which I co-chair, we have eliminated hundreds of
unnecessary regulations to make government more efficient and effective.

“Prior to his service as Attorney General, Bob developed an equally
impressive record as a local prosecutor and as a member of the Virginia
House of Delegates, where he led the fight for some of the most important
legislative accomplishments of the past decade, including the abolition of
    parole and welfare reform.

“Bob McDonnell’s record extends well beyond his legislative accomplishments.
He has actively supported and promoted the Central Virginia Food Bank, which
provides food to families in need.  He helped raise money to keep a private
school open in the City of Petersburg, providing needed educational
alternatives for many children; and he established the Wall of Honor in
recognition of Virginians who have given their lives in the war on terror.

“But more importantly, Bob McDonnell is a good man, a good husband and
father, and a dear friend.   I have enjoyed working with him in state
government for the past 14 years.  During that time we have developed a
strong personal relationship that is built on trust and respect.

“While I am disappointed to see Bob’s tenure as Attorney General end, I
trust that his departure from public service will be brief.  Bob McDonnell
has been an exemplary Attorney General and he will make a great Governor for
Virginia.  I look forward to joining him on the campaign trail soon as we
carry our message of New Ideas For A Better Virginia to the voters this
    November.”

Brownlee separates himself from the pack

by Not Jim Moran on February 4th, 2009 at 7:03 PM
Posted In: 2009, AG Race, John Brownlee

In a bold move, AG candidate John Brownlee completely separates himself from Senator Cuccinelli. Major props to Mr. Brownlee. This could be the issue that swings undecided delegates towards him. The last thing that a Republican AG candidate needs is to appear to be soft on crime.

What do you guys think? Be sure to comment.

Also, speaking of John Brownlee, Not Jim Moran will be talking to him tomorrow about his candidacy for AG! Check back soon for our conversation. Speaking of AG candidates, the much anticipated 2nd half of my conversation with Dave Foster will be posted this weekend! Stay tuned.

    UPDATE: RACE NOT OVER

by Not Jim Moran on February 4th, 2009 at 12:01 AM
Posted In: 2009, Fairfax County Chairman's Race, Pat Herrity, Sharon Bulova

    12:02 update:

    Results are:

    Bulova 51,949

    Herrity 50,732

I’m not sure how the votes decreased, as the margin was orginally reported as:

    52,049 Bulova (50.03%)

    50,732 Herrity (48.76%)

However, this was quickly changed on the SBE. Bearing Drift is reporting that a canvass might be held over tossed absentee ballots. Stay tuned for information!

Regardless of the outcome, this is still good for Republicans in Virginia, and Republicans in Northern Virginia. This is a good sign for the November 2009 General Elections.
